Traumatic Divide

It is one of my guiding principles that at the core we are compassionate, loving and caring; also, at our core, we are in connection to one another in ways that our physical and worldly presence can not fathom. Furthermore, our core is where the doorway to peace and freedom resides.
The traumatic wounding of growing up in a society that is full of “isms” such as racism, sexism, and classism, causes us to separate from our core self. This does not only apply to those we label as “people of color” or “minorities”; as these labels are only symptoms of the psychological adaptions that come along with the wounding of the human spirit.
The labels “white privilege”, "racist", "sexist", "liberal", "conservative", "Christian", "Catholic", "heterosexuals", "homosexuals" and the many others helps us make sense of the social structures and processes within society. However, they also have the potential to perpetuate a departure from the spirit and reinforce a traumatic divide. These labels can fuel the divide that burdens our world with an “us versus them” mentality. Each label come attached with a set of subjective beliefs and ideas that places our being into categories.
My words are not to minimize the pain and the implications that comes along with many of the labels that are instilled within our culture. Nor do I wish to minimizing the differences that makes us all unique. However, my purpose is to offer my thought as I begin to align with my divine spiritual self and began to relate to others from my core; here is where I begin to see the love that beams through us all. This shift allows me to have empathy for those who are under the influence of the traumatic divides that our physical world places on to us.
