Cocooning

I am going to start this off by talking a little bit about my Logo. Can you guess what it is?

It is a cocoon hanging from a branch! Cool...huh?

It’s a Sir Aaron Original, inspired by boredom. It all started with me sitting in eight-hours of training on “Carey Guides” (activities to meet the criminogenic needs of youth). The material was great; however, the trainer was not to thrilling.

Well…

The doodle started out looking like an arm bar tattoo… but as the hours lingered by, my pen continued to caress my yellow legal pad. Four hours into the training, as lunch was delivered, the image of a cocoon leaped off the page. I was in awe!

My mind began to identify a lot of the similarity between the life of a butterfly and mine. I know it sounds a little corny but hear me out….

As a caterpillar hatches into its environment, it is vulnerable; a sudden change could influence its development. When the cocoon is developed, the caterpillar lies dormant. The caterpillar uses its cocoon as a safe place to develop into a beautiful butterfly.

Like the caterpillar, I was born into an environment that had the potential to be detrimental to my development. However, I was placed into foster care. Foster care served as my cocoon, providing me with a strong structure of support. I was also taught the skills that are needed to be successful in life.Foster care has allowed me to develop into the person that I am today.

This simple doodle inspired a great deal of self-reflection. I was moved by what great symbolism my doodle held. Therefore, I decided that this would represent who I am.
